------------------------------- Wed Sep 15 06:47:59 PM EDT 2021 ------------------------------- Transcript of Chat box from BLU meeting, Wed, Sep 15, 2021 Meeting held online via Jitsi Meet In attendance (12 total): speaker(s): * Bill Ricker BLU officers: * John Abreau * Jerry Feldman * Bill Ricker Attendees (named): * Arnold Peterson * Brendan Kidwell * Jerrad Pierce * Jon "maddog" Hall * Mike Small * Jon Grosjean * Randy Cole Attendees (anonymous): * Curt * Joe K. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Curt did not need that 18:45 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Ricker Previously I'd used the headphone on the 2d device and muted the desktop. New desktop has working headphone jack w/ Linux ... and tablet doesn't have total mute for speakers?? So i'd need to put a fake headphone in that to have a monitor ...) (or find a control buried somewhere that totally kills tablet sound, and remember to turn it back on!!) 18:56 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- John Abreau i would expect a tablet to have an airplane mode and a mute for the sound, just like an android phone. Is that not the case? 18:57 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jon "maddog" Hall Live stream: https://youtu.be/fbghHGtdkg4 18:58 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Ricker Airplane mode would prevent me monitoring the meeting, so not helpful ! Haven't found a defeat media output sound on it. Can suppress notification sound. 18:59 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike Small Anyone know if Linux supports the touchpad well on old MacBook Air's? Have a 2011 one I installed OpenBSD on. Everything works right except that. 19:01 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Ricker I haven't tried it on MacBook yet, and the one i may thumbstick boot isn't an AIR, so i can't help? (Ubuntu handles touchpad well on ThinkPads.) 19:02 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike Small From a certain openbsd-misc thread I'm guessing openbsd does thinkpads okay too. Seems like few use Macs without MacOS so not so many tests. 19:04 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Ricker There's less reason to replace MacOS than Win πŸ˜„ 19:04 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike Small True enough. 19:04 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Ricker But they ARE supposed to be good homes non-Mac BSD and Linux 19:05 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Arnold Peterson I have a 2009 Sony laptop that the touchpad did not work with win7, it now worrks with ubuntu 20.04, just slow. 19:06 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Ricker At some point i'll try thumbdrive booting my reverse inherited macbook with some live distros ... 19:06 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike Small does ubuntu use synaptics(4) and synclient? Slowness in pointer motion ought to be adjustable with one of the parameters. 19:08 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Ricker i believe there's a motion gain setting somewhere 19:10 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ## talk starts at 7:17 pm ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Brendan Kidwell (New York City) I'm dropping out. I've been watching null video and hearing very isolated snippets of troubleshooting speech for about half an hour. I opened the youtube stream and I see there is a presentation going on which is not being received at all in my jitsi client. I guess I'll just have to watch the full recording later. 19:31 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jerry Feldman Sorry Brendan 19:32 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ## raku - new name for perl 6 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- John Abreau PGP doesn't just do encryption.
