no lp devices found?!

Good Linux people,

I'm trying to get my parallel printer going on Linux 1.2.13, and when I
boot, I get the message "lp_init: no lp devices found". As such, I can't
print to lp0 (or lp1, or whatever). Any ideas about what the problem might
be? I've got a very straightforward setup... computer-cable-printer. :)
It doesn't appear that there are any hardware conflicts, and printing works
fine via Windoze95 (for whatever *that's* worth...)

Thanks in advance,
