Boops and Beeps

Well...

Is this "boop" identical to the "beep" you get when you type ESC to exit
insert mode in vi?

Is it the same when you type:

echo ^G (CONTROL+G)?

What is a Boop anyway? I think the BELL (CTRL-G) is determined by the
hardware set to a default hertz rate and duration, because my old Apple II
used these two variables to get sound out of the speaker. My PC beeps
when it boots and will beep a morse code of death upon board failure...

What processes are running when you guys hear this Boop?
