Samba is used on linux to talk to Windows like an NT server would.  This
is where you would do the file server stuff and the printer access.  The
printer will still have to be setup in linux.

A book that I find invaluable in working with any Unix/Linux is Oreilly's
Essential System Administration (armadillo) book.
