OT: C,C++

If you know pascal and you want to do database stuff you should look at
Delphi. Delphi is essesially object oriented pascal. I'm sure I'm gunnin
for a flamin when I say this but its way ahead of c++ in terms of maturity
on the oob side of things. Also the integreated development enviroment
under winX and integration with ODBC stuff is great. Along with that
I've heard that there is a port of the Delphi enviroment/compiler to the
linux platform so the cross platform stuff should/is be resolved if not
now in the near future.
As for knowing C, since alot of stuff (like linux) is written in C, at
least a working knowlege of the language is just good practice. Someday
you might just want to read the kernel code...
