'kill' in bash script?

I have the following line in a simple script file:

ps ax | grep [b]ackfract | awk '{print $1}' | xargs -n1 kill

The script works fine if I run it manually. But if I add it to my
crontab, it won't work. I'm sure there is a simple explanation. Can
someone help me with this?

Not a life-or-death situation here. I just want to restart 'backfract'
(a nifty program to generate fractal background images for your screen)
every hour or two.

p.s. - I have to gush. I'm not usually the guy with the newest toy.
But I did just get a new laptop from ASL. 450MHz PIII, 256MB, 12GB,
10/100+56K, 15" screen, etc.

WOW is this nice!!! (no I'm not affiliated w/ ASL in any way ;) I feel
somewhat emasculated that I didn't install the OS, but you know, I've
done enough installs in my life, that it really doesn't bother me too
much.
