need help identifying SMP limits...

Follow up::

  + The 2.2 and 2.3 kernels are capable of 32 CPUs
  + However, the cost / performance factor breaks down after 4 cpu's.
  + The 2.4 kernel should scale "lineraly" up to 8 cpu's.
  + Hardware manufacturers have only taken the Intels to a max of 8 cpu's
     (I make the assumption based on a limited search of main-stream venders)
