RedHat 6.2 on a i486



I can't help you with RH specifically, but it might be worth your time to
try Debian potato.  I can confirm that it does install onto a 486 laptop
with no serious obstacles.  I can even send you matching kernel image and
PCMCIA modules packages as *.deb files which are known to work on my IBM
ThinkPad 701, which is a 75 MHz mobile 486 with 16 MB RAM.

One important detail you omit is the type of PCMCIA cards you are using.  
It looks to me as if PCMCIA is failing on you, so this is going to prevent
both SCSI and Ethernet from working.
