Clobbered some init file for my user 'Guest'

Can anyone tell me which initialization/environment file I clobbered
using Red hat Linux 6.1/6.2?
When I log in as root my prompt says:
[root at rufus root]#

yet when I log in as 'Guest' I get

bash$

Back in the DOS days I would use the prompt command in my autoexec.bat
file to switch things. Where have I gone astray?

Kevin
