What controller is the drive connected to? If it's the onboard IDE then
see if the other replies are helpful. If you're using an addon controller
you may need to tell lilo where to find it at the lilo prompt:

lilo: linux ide2=0xb400,0xb000,10 ide3=0xa800,0xa400,10

ide0/1 are the motherboard's interfaces (even if you've disabled them in
the BIOS), ide2/3 are the two channels on your first addon controller. If
you're only using one channel you don't need to specify the other.

The "10" would be the IRQ assigned to the controller, which shouldn't be
neccessary. To get the addresses:

a) boot with a rescue disk and take a peek at /proc/pci and look at the
addresses for the controller in there

... or ...

b) if you have windows installed, in the control panel click on the
"System" icon, then go to the "Devices" tab and look at the properties for
the controller. The addresses should be visible in there.

In any case, once you've got your system up, recompile a recent kernel
with proper support for whatever hardware you are using.

Good luck!
