Ethernet - Existing Home



While this does not, as far I know, apply to Massachusetts, you should be
aware that running telephone and network wire is a regulated trade in
Rhode Island and Connecticut.  Just as you would not hire an electrical
contractor to do plumbing, you would not hire one to do network wiring.

I am not saying that this is necessarily an idea I would support,
especially since it costs me $100 per year to renew my master tradesman's
license, but the reason it evolved this way was because of encroachment
from the electricians.  In order to protect all of the people who were
doing telephone and network wiring from a threat to require an
electrician's license, a separate trade was created with its own license.

Be aware that some cities and towns require a building permit, too.
