Windows NT/2000 Laptop network backup options?

I'm not familiar with specific products to do this; however, if the
laptops can be configured for filesharing, you could have the backup host
mount their shares as an smbfs, and then use backup software on Linux
that's not Windows-specific. This won't address the disconnection issue,
though.
