Future Linux machines?

I had a machine a couple years ago where the BIOS refused to recognize
more than 8 GB on a 30 GB drive. On advice from the list, I fiddled around
with fdisk's advanced settings and specified the drive geometry by hand.
After that, linux recognized the entire drive despite the bios
limitations.
