URLotD: One terabyte file server for five grand (fwd)

Can we get one of these?

This URL came from the current issue of Slashdot.

Several months ago we came up with a theory: it should be possible
to build a terabyte file server for less than $5,000. We talked to
Mike Vildibill and he found the idea interesting, so we decided to
run with it. Since then we've done a lot of testing and have been
through several trial configurations. I intend to detail some of
our experiences here in the hope that we can help other people who
are interested in inexpensive large-scale storage.
