Remote Monitoring

Could anyone recommend a remote monitoring daemon/process that could be used to monitor the 
availability of a remote host?

My company has a few servers in colocation and we're not always able to tell quickly when 
they have become unavailable....  I've been scanning through the usual places and have found 
several, but would appreciate any recommendations...
