Irc server.

I am new to Boston and I was glad to find a Linux users group. I tried
to look on the www.blu.org <http://www.blu.org/>  web site for any help
polices, I have to follow when sending emails out. I was unsuccessful to
find any info. So I hope I have done it right.
 
 
I need to setup a irc server. I installed IRCD irc server, after I
installed IRCD, 
I tried to start the service and it says that it started ok 
([root at dalan report]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/ircd start 
Starting IRC system:                                            [  OK  ]
[root at dalan report]#). 
 
But when I status I get error. 
([root at dalan report]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/ircd status
ircd dead but subsys locked
[root at dalan report]#)
 
I'm not sure what I did wrong. I install IRCD by following these
(ftp://ftp.funet.fi/pub/unix/irc/docs/server-docs/INSTALL.txt) and I
used that file for the configuration of the ircd.conf file.
 
I don't know what I did wrong if any of you can supply help I would be
very appositive.

Sorry about the lack of my PGP info. I just got a new job and have not
