How about good old `man ed`?  It's not all that large, and should  be
available  on  any unix-type system.  I doubt if ed has changed in 10
years, so any such man page should be good anywhere. (The ed man page
on  this linux box is dated Nov 1994, and the page on a handy FreeBSD
machine is dated May 1993.)
