Apple Xserve 'biocluster' event in Boston on September 10th

Hi folks,

I hope this is on-topic for the BLU list. We are going to be putting
together a small bioinformatics Xserve compute farm demo/seminar in
Boston. The specific invite info is appended below.

Also- if there are any life science folks on this list who use clusters
or compute farms in their work I invite you to join the 'bioclusters'
list that was set up by Jeff B. from bioinformatics.org and I. The URL
is http://www.bioinformatics.org/mailman/listinfo/bioclusters

Regards,
Chris

> MAC OSX CLUSTERING FOR LIFE SCIENCES
>
> Apple, BioTeam and Platform invite you to join us to explore the benefits of
> distributed computing hardware and software solutions for the demanding
> computational requirements of modern bioinformatics environments.
> Bioscientists need the most powerful technologies available to analyze the
> ever-growing large volumes and complexity of raw data. However, challenges
> faced by many researchers include limited access to hardware to run
> analyses, slow throughput of analysis and poor hardware/software
> functionality.
>
> At this free seminar Dr. Bill Van Etten of BioTeam will join representatives
> from Platform and Apple to present and discuss the cost-effectiveness and
> scalability of distributed computing for data analysis on Apple's Mac OSX
> platform. Presentations will be followed by an open lab where you will be
> able to see and test a computer cluster built with Mac OSX, Xserve and
> Platform)B?s life sciences suite running demonstrations of AGBlast, HMMER, and
> other Unix research tools.
