Wireless Internet options

Another problem with at least the consumer satellite IP services is a
strict non-static IP policy. I mean, with a regular dynamic IP you
can do a dynamic DNS and still do incoming traffic. The consumer
satellite folks, on the other hand, are so bandwidth starved and so
asymmetrical in how they use it, that apparently they watch closely
for any incoming server-like traffic and yank it. Or at least their
agreements sure make it sound like that is what they do.

Also, part of how Starband gets even the bandwidth they claim is by
doing squid-like caching on your end.

Summary: The consumer satellite IP folks are mostly selling "web
access", not and IP link to the internet.

-kb, the Kent who considers "the web" to be different from "the
internet" (and neither should be capitalized, not any more than "the
phone system" is capitalized).
