Citizen Schools Volunteer Opportunity Announcement--Boston, MA

*Citizen Schools invites you to volunteer as a "Citizen Teacher" this
Spring.*

Share what you know and love with a small group of 9-14 year old
students in Boston!

Citizen Schools is an innovative after-school program that inspires and
educates children while strengthening community through unique learning
Apprenticeships. Through a network of 12 after-school and summer
programs in Boston, Citizen Schools engages more than 1,000 students
(ages 9 to 14) and 1,000 community volunteers annually. The
Apprenticeships challenge kids and adults alike to gain skills and
understanding. Students learn by doing as they write children's books,
design web pages, start businesses, cook gourmet meals, publish
newspapers and much, much more.

Citizen Schools apprenticeships are taught for 2 hours per week, for 11
weeks. The Citizen Schools Spring 2003 Program will run for 11 weeks
beginning the week of February 24th and ending the week of May 12th. The
tech-related apprenticeships culminate with an event called the Tech
Expo, which exposes your work to a large cross-section of the Boston
technology sector. Likewise, it is a great way to network within the
technology community. While all apprenticeships are important, we try to
offer a wide-range of technology apprenticeships in order to prepare the
kids for the workplace of the 21st century.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you're interested in teaching
an apprenticeship, and please forward this information to any of your
colleagues who may also be interested.

Thanks for your time,

Brett Macleod
