Most distros come with Xine and Mplayer. I found that when using Xine
OOB on SuSE 8.2, that there was a warning message that some components
were not loaded because of patent problems. I loaded the Xine tarball
and built from scratch.
The same message was displayed for Mplayer. After some research, the
consencus was that xine is currently the best.
