Please subscribe to the list for further information.
Grep is included in all versions of Linux, and should reside in /bin.
It sounds to me that either your PATH is not set correctly, or that the
base system did not install properly. Both /bin and /usr/bin should be
in your path. If you did not tell the system to format your root file
system on install, it is possible that the install may have run out of
room.
