Fedora = molasses sound?

Ok, I'm now running Fedora and my pcmcia card works again :). But,
interestingly, my audio...is....so.....slow...... I play an mp3 and it
sounds like it's running at 1/10th speed or something. I don't even know
where to begin looking for the source to this problem. Any clues?

I thought the problem was with mplayer and that perhaps I would need to
recompile, but xmms and sndconfig both did it as well.
