Energy-hogging Linux, what to do?

As I mentioned before I read this, manufacturers like HP and IBM are
packing more systems into single racks. We just set up a new lab of
3500 sq. feet mostly servers of just about everything HP makes
(including some big Alphas) complete with cat6 and fibre.
