Twin-pane file managers

Konqueror (the file manager part) does two pane (or infinite pane I
suppose) file management because you can split the active pane, and
then use whatever address you want in the location bar to view things
in the currently active pane. Note that you can split the current
pane either vertically or horizontally according to your preference.

To run konqueror in file management mode: 'kfmclient openProfile
filemanagement' from the launcher/shell

F9 toggles the 'Navigation Panel' on/off if you want more room to do real work

If you're already running konqueror, the options for splitting the
pane are under the 'window' menu. The shortcut 'Ctrl+Shift+L' will
give you a Left/right split.

I use this functionality all the time to visually drag and drop files
to/from a remote server using ssh because konqueror understands ssh
through the special url syntax of 'fish://user at host/path/to/files'
