[JOBS] Jr. Developer / Webmaster at Standards Body -- Billerica, MA



Webmaster / Jr. Web Developer
We have an excellent opportunity for an entry-level web developer to
join the Technology Services team at OASIS-Open at our headquarters in
Billerica, MA. Working with a Sr. Developer, and System Administrator,
you will report to the Manager of Technology Services. This role
includes the maintenance and support of OASIS-Open.org, XML.org and
other OASIS websites.

Must have a solid grasp of (hand-coded) HTML in addition to using
editing tools such as DreamWeaver or HomeSite. Must have good
knowledge of cross-browser issues, use CSS for presentation, and
produce standards-compliant XHTML. Knowledge of JavaScript, DHTML,
DOM, XML, PHP, Python, and MySQL is desired. Experience using a
MacIntosh and/or Linux desktop is highly preferred.  Our backend
infrastructure runs on Debian GNU/Linux. Experience with Microsoft
Office applications is desired, OpenOffice is preferred. Creativity
and experience with design tools like Adobe Photoshop, Fireworks,
Illustrator and/or the GIMP is desired. Experience with Open Source
software and content mangement systems such as Drupal, MoinMoin wiki,
RT, Subversion, and Zope is highly desirable.

This individual will be primarily responsible for performing all
day-to-day maintenance activities on our company web sites including
developing new pages, updating data & document links and posting press
releases, news items and other duties as required. Attention to detail
is a must while working on fast turnaround for multiple websites. 
With limited frequency, this person would also develop new graphics by
processing photographs & artwork using software like Adobe Photoshop,
Illustrator or the GIMP.

2-3 years experience developing web sites is required. Qualified
candidates should also possess strong organization skills. Must have
excellent verbal & written communication skills including accurate
spelling. A motivated and self-directed person willing to take on new
challenges will have an opportunity to learn and grow in this
position.

Job Duties include:
Daily content edits
File uploads
XML.org news updates/RSS feeds ? news ? press releases
Development of new sites ? web pages as needed
Administration of web systems such as Drupal.
Brainstorming and problem-solving of user requests for structures,
layout and troubleshooting
Incident response
Customer service

Required or Strongly Desired Qualifications:
Ability to hand-code standards-compliant HTML and CSS. (Not reliant on
WYSIWYG editors.)
Familiarity with XHTML/HTML/DHTML, CSS, JavaScript
Understanding of advanced CSS techniques (box-model hack, tabs,
floats) and appropriate use.
Experience developing cross-browser JavaScript
Experience developing cross-browser DHTML.
Thorough knowledge of browser/platform compatibility including text browsers.
Familiarity with Internet Standards, XML, SQL, PHP, Python, Perl desired
Graphics creation/manipulation/optimization desired
Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator or the GIMP.
Understanding of back-end server processing ( JSP, PHP, SSI) in
generating HTML output.
Must be organized with a strong attention to detail.
Strong written, spelling and verbal communication skills.
Excellent relationship-building skills and ability to raise
issues/concerns a must
Strong initiative, excellent work ethic and a desire to learn and succeed
Goal-oriented and able to thrive in a team environment
Experience with Mac OS, Linux and Windows
Desirable Skills or Experience:
Experience with HTML DOM manipulation and parsing XML.
Experience with XML, XML Schema and XSLT.
Ability to construct layout, organization and navigation of content
and web applications.
Experience drawing and creating prototypes with tools such as Visio
Experience writing technical/internal documentation for code and procedures
Experience with technical writing and/or HTMLHelp for end-users
Experience with website production processes, including Quality
Assurance and Link testing.
Experience with Source Control (Subversion, or CVS)
Experience with Internationalization and Localization of web content
Experience with website statistical reporting software like AWStats
and/or Webalizer (not WebTrends)
Experience with Print media
Knowledge of Vector graphics
Experience with Webinars - editing audio
Experience working within Not-for-Profit member organizations
Experience with Drupal or similar open source content management systems
Experience with wiki systems and syntax
Experience using and administering blogging and/or forum software
Experience with IRC, chat software
Experience with RSS / Atom feeds
