LVM Religious Wars

I want to know the "right way" to use LVM.

I can look at the docs and see how various features work, but I am
missing the larger picture of why I would want, say, how many volume
groups. Say I am setting up a server with a big disk from scratch (I
am), decisions I make now will haunt/benefit me for a long time to
come. I plan on using Xen to run multiple servers on a single box.
How should I format things?

Thanks,

-kb
