Weird behavior while building Kernel Objects

You mean /usr/src/linux.

Oh!  But you said it was built-in right?  Since you didn't make it a
module, you'll need to rebuild it into your kernel image.  Unless you
want to modify the .config file and make it a module for future
builds.  I think this may be your issue...
