32 bit vs. 64 bit benchmark test



 I saw this on the SuSE Linux discussion list. While the OS here is only 
versions of SuSE, it is relevant to us as a basis for comparison.

But, there is a grain of salt. First, not all applications are native 
64-bit. Secondly, as we have discussed, some Firefox plugins are not 
available in 64-bit versions, forcing the use of 32-bit Firefox.  For 
some people, it is better to use a 32-bit OS. IMHO, a lot of these 
issues will be resolved in time as native 32-bit chips start to 
disappear from the Desktop and Laptop markets. At point I published the 
Intel and AMD roadmaps showing that they would no longer manufacture 
32-bit CPUs.
