Re: MySQL -- was mysql backup quesiton



 The tendency is to be a fanboy for the RDBMS you use the most.  No 
there is nothing wrong with the design of MySQL.  It was designed for 
performance and ease of use and it achieved and still achieves these 
goals.  It's no secret that it wasn't designed for ACID, MVCC, etc. 
like PostgreSQL was (which is why I mostly use PostgreSQL), but many 
of these deficiencies have been addressed in newer MySQL versions. 
The performance of MySQL over PostgreSQL is also no secret.  It all 
depends on the requirements of your app and what you're trying to do 
with your database ...
