I dunno if SuSE has anything already ready already in the way of 
packages to set up a cross-compiler tool chain or not, but you're 
looking at having to get a cross-compiler tool chain for ia64 one way or 
another. 

Debian example:

Never done it myself since I've got access to a fair amount of actual 
ia64 hardware, so no clue how much pain it is.
