I don't follow. Nobody but Comcast was offering high-speed data service 
here (Tyngsboro, MA), and that's somehow Verizon's doing? That would 
seem to be more Comcast's doing. 

Perhaps I didn't explain the situation here well enough. There is no DSL 
available from anyone. The only options are Comcast cable and Verizon 
FiOS, and FiOS only got here a year and a half ago.
