I'm looking for a cheap external raid solution for a CentOS 5 box.

Have you pondered installing an e-SATA card in your box and
configuring its drives as a RAID? My recent readings on these
seem to suggest that e-SATA setups are particularly fast and
very cost efficient. To get even quicker, there are 10,000 rpm
drives available as well. Tom's Hardware has recently reviewed
some cards that might be of interest.
