I hear ya. F9 seems to take a lot more effort to get working properly,
at least on my hardware, than F8. I got so fed up I've switched to
CentOS. The repo feels a bit old compared to Fedora but you're still in
a familiar environment. ( I do have an odd problem with my DVD player
but that's for another email.) If you like Red Hat / KDE then
Scientific Linux is pretty fun. I was using it last year on a thinkpad.
Worked right out of the box. I haven't used Ubuntu but I have used
Debian and understand if you make the switch. The package manager isn't
that big a deal. You'll get used to it in two seconds.
