Computer-vendor warranty departments - scrap them?

A turn to the OT:
Mother of pearl, car dealership repair departments are completely
incompetent -- much like OP's experience with the computer repair
shop, they:
a) don't fix the problem
b) do so expensively.

But this makes me happy, because this problem is also repeated in the
computer industry, which means that people who are able to look at a
problem and solve it without throwing parts at it (or randomly hacking
crap together) will always be in demand, and these days job security
is pretty high on my list. :--)
