Cheapest way to backup data

For the Mac, I use a 1 TB external drive with time machine. It is 5x
the base drive, and when it fills up, I will be another drive, so I
keep snapshots of the machine.

For the Linux box, I have a SATA drive that does not get mounted
except for once a month to do rsync. So all my data is local.
