hardware for MySQL DB

We use very ordinary consumer grade hardware.

We have been doing this for about 2 years, no problems so far. The drive
is just a consumer grade thumb drive, and the database isn't super-busy,
but it gets a few thousand record updates each day.

If you are worried about limited write lifetime, I think getting a larger
drive will mitigate that risk, since writes will be spread over more
sectors.
