i would both agree and disagree. you seem to define ownership as a
personal thing. one discreet individual owning some thing [this is a
common definition]. with that in mind, it is true that the GPL does
not allow ownership [absolute control issued from one individual].

but, i would counter that the GPL takes an evolutionary view of
ownership, putting it onto the society at large. so, in this way, it
aims to *protect* the rights of the community by preventing them from
being controlled by a single individual. especially in programming, we
are all standing on the shoulders of those that came before us, right?
