Given that Mint is built on Ubuntu, the interesting question is what
version of Ubuntu (10.04LTS?) failed to work and what version of Mint
resolved the problem? Assuming the Mint version was based on a newer
Ubuntu (and if this was a year ago, pretty safe bet it was never than
10.04), the follow up question is whether you would have seen the same
result by upgrading Ubuntu.
