Eben Moglen (formerly a lawyer for the FSF) once told a story at an FSF dinner
that when he reached an impasse during a GPL enforcement meeting he found it
helpful to say "You can talk to me or you can talk to Richard."  Most people
would rather talk with Eben in those circumstances :-)
