NFS Installation message

Rick Macdonald suggests that the fix for this type of problem is to check 
your /etc/passwd and /etc/group files for lines starting with either 
a '+' or a '-' character.  These characters force a NIS lookup.
If you don't use NIS you will get the "Port mapper failure" error message.
