On January 31, 1996 at 7:00 P.M. the Greater New Hampshire Linux User's Group,
Digital Equipment
Corporation, the University of New Hampshire, the Northern New England Unix
User's Group, and the
Association of Computing Machinery are proud to co-sponsor a talk by Linus
Torvalds, the architect of
the Linux Operating System. Admission to the talk is free.

The talk will be held in the Iddles Auditorium (L101) of Parsons Hall on the
University of New
Hampshire campus. In addition to the talk door prizes will be offered, and
there will be computer
systems running Linux, demonstrating the capabilities of the operating system.

Linux is a freely distributed multi-tasking, multi-user, internet-ready
operating system that can
either be copied over the Internet, or purchased inexpensively off CD-ROMS.
It runs on Intel-class
machines and (lately) Alpha processors. Ports to other systems are in
progress. In addition to
getting the binaries for the operating system, compilers and networking code,
the sources are also
freely available and distributable.

Members of each organization will be available to talk about their
relationship with Linux, and to
invite people to join their organizations to help promote the use of Linux,
UNIX and computer systems
in general.

Directions to the facility are below, and a campus map is available at

           http://www.iol.unh.edu/general/directions/campus.html (map)

Directions from Boston:

The Logan International Airport in Boston is approximately sixty miles from
Durham. Leave the Airport on Route 1 going North and look for the Route 95
Exit. Once on I-95 going North, drive approximately 35 minutes across the
N.H.
border and through one toll ($1). As you approach Portsmouth, New Hampshire,
take Exit 4 on your left ("White Mtns./Dover"). You will now be on the
Spaulding Turnpike heading North. Drive approximately 5 miles to Exit 6 West
(Route 4 West/Durham/UNH). It's the last exit before a toll and you will see
the toll booth as you take the exit. Follow Route 4 West approximately 4
miles
past the U.N.H./Durham Route 108 exit and through one traffic light. About
1/2
mile after the light, take the Route 155A Exit (U.N.H./Durham) and turn left
   (going east) towards Durham.

Follow 155A past a short stretch of fields until you see some tennis courts
on your right. Go to the flashing light and turn right. Follow that road,
bending to the left until you get almost to a "T" intersection. Parking
lot B
will be on your left. Park in lot B and proceed to Parson's Hall.

Directions from Manchester:

The Manchester Airport is approximately forty miles from Durham. Take Route
101 to Epping and exit onto Route 125 North. At the end of the Exit ramp,
turn
left at traffic light. You're now on Route 125 heading North. Proceed 10
miles
to the traffic circle (Lee Traffic Circle). Take the first Exit off the
traffic circle to Durham (Route 4 East). Follow Route 4 going East
approximately 1.5 miles to Route 155A (U.N.H./Durham); bear right at the end
of the ramp. Follow the directions as listed from Boston.

Directions from Portsmouth, N.H.:

Follow I-95 South to Exit 5. You will now be on the Spaulding Turnpike
heading
North. Drive approximately 5 miles to Exit 6 West (Route 4 West/Durham/UNH).
It's the last exit before a toll and you will see the toll booth as you take
the exit. Follow Route 4 West approximately 4 miles past the UNH/Durham
Route
108 exit and through one traffic light. About 1/2 mile after the light, take
the Route 155A Exit (U.N.H./Durham) and turn left (going east) towards
Durham.
Follow the directions as listed from Boston.

Directions from Concord, N.H.

Take Route 4 East towards Lee and Durham. After going through the Lee
Traffic
Circle, proceed approximately 1.5 miles to Route 155A (U.N.H./Durham); bear
right at the end of the ramp. Follow the directions as listed from Boston.
