Pull the Ethernet card out and try again.  The install should succeed.  If you
want to put the Ethernet card back in after installing, make sure the card is
terminated (if coax) and you may need to specify card parameters to lilo. 
(Note that terminating an unconnected Ethernet card requires a tee connector
with two terminating blanks.)

I suspect that your problem is during the boot process where Linux tries to
probe hardware, such as Ethernet cards, to detect their presence automatically.
