Disk partitioning and swap

A couple of points that I don't think have been mentioned:

  You might want to put your news spool on a separate partition, with
  fewer bytes per inode, and mounted -noatime.
  
  If you put /usr into a separate partition, you can mount it readonly
  for some added insurance it will stay safe.
