Lest we forget, let us add a note of gratitude to the author of Minix,
Andrew (?) Tannenbaum, who, on learning that Linus had turned his 
minix into a "real" operating system, asked Linus to take minix out
of his kernel, since Minix was designed as an educational tool, not
a fully functional OS.  So the Linux kernel was rewritten (not for 
the last time) and made more efficient in the process.
