Disclaimer: I have no linux at work, I'm working on my disfunctional
photographic memory (using lossy compression ;-)

First check to see which X11 server the X binary links to.  (My example
will reference a simple PC using the SVGA server)

Go to the SVGA section of the XF86config (/etc/X11/XF86config if you're
using RedHat) and simply remove any high video settings (1024x768 , 1280x1024).
Do the same for the virtual section.  There is a "Default Video" statement
you can insert, but I forget the exact syntax (man XF86config)

So to recap:

	/etc/X11/XF86config
	SVGA section

	remove anything that isn't 800x600
	set Virtual to equal video (800x600)

That should do it...
