I can't speak to RCN. However, I've been delighted with MediaOne (in
Cambridge, near Porter Square, at least....). My own setup is somewhat
politically incorrect; I have a "firewall in a box" called a SonicWALL
between the cable modem and my internal network. I also don't (yet) run a
server; I'm strictly doing email, web browsing, FTP, etc. I'm currently
trying to get Sonic's VPN support to work with a Raptor firewall; I'll
post the ultimate results.

My in-house lan has 3 Linux (RedHat 5.2) boxes (old computers never die,
they just become more specialized servers...), a Mac, a W98 laptop and
an Epson 850Ne printer. Setup of all was reasonably simple (though I have
come to rather hate the Epson's Windoze-based software).

Anyway: MediaOne has worked fine for me, and I use it a lot for both
pleasure and work (I work from my house).
