Printer setup with all current distributions is relatively
straightforward. Red Hat 5.x is click, click, done. The original
beef is that the 2.2 kernels renumbered the devices in the kernel and
considerably restructured what it takes to configure and recognize
them. When dropping a 2.2 kernel onto a system distributed with a
2.0.x kernel, there is some pain. Most of this is on the kernel side.
Once the kernel can see the parallel port the old RH printtool make
it a snap to configure the printer.
