X Windows on SiS 620

Hi folks!

I've gotten X Windows running on a different box, same monitor. So all my
monitor settings are exact, (Horiz Sync and Vert Sync).

I got a hot new machine with a SiS 620 chip. When I first tried to install
X Windows, that chip wasn't in the list when I ran xf86config. I got the
latest version of X from XFree 86, the Linux_ix_glibc one, and installed it
-- ran preinst.sh, extract x*.tgz, and postinst.sh. The only thing I
noticed was that in relnotes it says X*.tgz, but by the time I got the
files from my 95 machine over to my Linux machine via Samba, the X was a
small x. Should I change the letters to capital X*.tgz and then run
extract again? Sounds silly, but who knows. But anyhow, now when I run
xf86config, I can find the SiS 620, in entry 582.

For servers I tried 1,2 and 3, the SVGA, the VGA, and the Monochrome
server. No luck. It goes gray, then blue and then white on one side,
black on the other, and if I fool with the mouse it does crazy things. But
mostly it just locks up and I can't even Alt-Fn to a different term. I
have to power it off to get out.

Any suggestions? Thanks all.
