gnome startup programs

I have Red Hat 6.1 booting run-level 5 into gnome. After I login, the
gnome help system and a file manager pop up automatically. I cannot for
the life of me figure out how to stop these programs from automatically
starting.

I've recursively grep'd my home directory for anything referring to the
programs in question (gmc & gnome-help-browser), but this hasn't gotten
me anywhere. They are not listed in the gnome configuration panel's
startup list, either.

I feel like even my grandmother should be able to figure this out, but
I'm stuck.

p.s. - I just sent a nastygram to Network Solutions about all the SPAM
they send me. Has anyone had any luck getting them to stop sending them
all this crap?
